Raiders punch ticket to SOSSA

In most sports, a strong goalie can steal a game.

That was almost the case on Monday as the St. Francis Phoenix jumped on the back of keeper Austin Hinds, falling just short in a shootout to the Holy Cross Raiders in the Niagara Catholic Athletic Association senior boys soccer championship game.

After a scoreless draw, the Raiders were able to escape with a 5-3 shootout win. 

Holy Cross Raiders coach Marc Ferretti had nothing but praise for Hinds following the win.

“Definitely kudos to him, he was outstanding,” he said. “Without him, I’m going to estimate it could have been a 5-1 game.”

After controlling possession of the ball for the majority of the game, Holy Cross easily could have become frustrated, but stuck with their game plan and kept pressing.
