Catholic Social Teaching is central to our faith and to the mission of Holy Cross Catholic Secondary School. Rooted in the belief that every person is created in the image and likeness of God, Catholic Social Teaching calls us to uphold the life and dignity of the human person, promote the common good, and live in solidarity with those who are marginalized. Our students are invited to put faith into action by responding to the needs of others locally, nationally, and globally.
Throughout the school year, students participate in social justice education and service opportunities that reflect key principles of Catholic Social Teaching, including the preferential option for the poor and vulnerable, subsidiarity, and stewardship of God’s creation. Through initiatives such as the Christmas Basket Projects, Fall and Spring Food Drive, Lenten Used Clothing Campaigns, and our Annual Pilgrimage, students learn that true discipleship requires compassion, advocacy, and action.
Holy Cross also partners with Development and Peace (Caritas Canada), enabling students to explore global justice issues rooted in Gospel values. As part of the Chaplain’s Crew/Leadership team, students attend workshops where they develop the skills and knowledge needed to educate their peers on contemporary social justice issues, challenging the school community to respond through prayer, awareness, and meaningful action.
As a Catholic school community that welcomes students of all faith traditions, Holy Cross is committed to forming young people who are reflective, socially conscious, and committed to justice. Through social justice education and outreach, our students grow academically, spiritually, and morally, learning not only what we believe, but how we are called to live.
