Homework Help

Niagara Catholic has a new program to assist students in Grades 7 to 10 who are in need of help with math. Homework Help is an e-Learning Ontario provincial initiative, operated by the Independent Learning Centre (ILC) in conjunction with e-Learning Ontario. It replaces Niagara Catholic’s Mentor Connector project, which was completed at the end of June 2011.

Homework Help incorporates many of the ideas and initiatives of Mentor Connector, which pioneered online homework help in Ontario.

Students in need of help with their math homework can log onto Homework Help for free, online tutoring from Ontario-certified teachers Sundays through Thursdays from 5:30 p.m. - 9:30 p.m. A number of other features are available online 24/7.

Homework Help is available at https://tvomathify.com/register/student

Tutors in the Classroom

Through the NCDSB, prospective educators currently enrolled in a faculty of education program are made available to support classroom teachers and students in the areas of literacy and numeracy. The Tutors in the Classroom Program is conducted over both semesters.

Success Alternative Program

Success is a program to support and assist students who are credit deficient and potential early leavers. The program provides flexibility in programming to meet student needs and may include credit recovery, dual credits, Pope Francis Centre and SAL.

The Success program is taught by a teacher. The programming of the course also includes: career exploration, individual assistance in learning skills, short term counseling, community partner support, community tours, active mentorship and systematic supports.

Dual Credits (Secondary and College) - Connecting to College

A dual credit is one that can be applied as both a secondary school credit and college elective credit.

In our Connecting to College Program, students attend Niagara College for a half-day four times a week earning two dual college/secondary credits. The student will also be enrolled in two more secondary school credits in an every- day half-day program at Holy Cross. There are a limited number of seats in the program for grade 12 students in their graduating year. Students must complete an application form that is submitted to Student Services and then sent to the School-College-Work representative at the school board.
